A preemie Mommy....Ready or not....

Im have come to realize in my 27 yrs of life No one is perfect. I was born into a life I didn't create yet I found it better to live life rather than sit by the wayside. Becoming a mother for the first time at the young age of 19 just clicked with me. Seeing my borderline Preemie Did not. At 5 lbs 9 ozs tiny Gabriel made his appearance with a host of medical issues. From heart decels leading to Emergency C-Section, some issues breathing, blood in urine (leading to a blocked kidney due to a blood clot). At 2 months old come to find out he had a blood disorder from his father, and by 5 months his right kidney had died off. Fast forward 8 yrs....I look at my big, healthy firstborn and it amazes me how far he has come. Now you think having been through the NICU routine would have prepared me for what was to come. Years later I was remarried and we were trying to have a baby of our own. Through the rollercoaster of emotions, the ups and downs, the heartache of trying to concieve had taken its toll. After 15 months we were pregnant!!!!!!!! From the being my pregnancy wasn't a easy one. Morning sickness 7 months, miscarriage scare at 13 weeks, high risk to blood pressure problems with my firstborn and a diabetes scare. I was determined to everything right for our "miracle baby". March 2, 2011, 34 weeks along.....got up to start my day, went to the bathroom... there was blood everywhere! I was beyond worried. After droppping Gabe off at school, Dwayne and I made our way to Labor and Delivery. Next thing I knew I was being admitted. Drs. believing my placenta was prematurely seperating was the cause of the bleeding. Then it continued on downhill from there.... 24 urine protein collection to check for Pre- Eclamp, needless to say I was keep for eating for 2 days. On the third afternoon of my stay, the Dr. that had checked me and determined I was regularly contracting and started to dialate. Since the baby started to show signs of destress and I had a planned C-Section date they decided a Emergency section was the best course of action. So at 34 weeks Baby Blake made his way into the world. He was wisked away to the Nicu due to breathing problems from his immature lungs. As being through the whole Nicu thing before with Gabe I thought I was prepared...I was dead wrong..... Even though a big 6 lbs 8 ozs my "little baby" was on C pap for the first 5 days of his 14 day stay. Nothing I mean nothing prepares you for that. Then came the jaundace but he was taking to feedings of my milk well so we thought we were ok. He went on room air and his levels went down, we were ready to take our little man home. Two days later we walked in to see him back under the lights....I broke down. 14 days later we were home at last. More Dr. visits, 6 months later we are getting use to our "perfect family" of four. I was lucky, my boys didn't come out with the host of medical issues that alot of preemie parents have to endure. Always count your Blessings. Regardless of being born a preemie or a "termie" every baby is a miracle. I was the lucky one being touched my my two preemie babies.....
